Abu Dhabi career fair – 6,000 jobs on offer for Emiratis

News update January 24, 2016

Participating companies will offer positions in oil and gas, banking, tourism, hospitality and telecommunications among other sectors

Abu Dhabi: Nearly 6,000 jobs are expected to be on offer for Emiratis at the capital’s annual recruitment fair, which will start next week.

And despite the slump in international oil prices, nearly half of the positions at the tenth edition of the Tawdheef Recruitment Fair are being offered by Adnoc, Abu Dhabi emirate’s oil and gas producer, Hayete Jemai, the exhibition director, told Gulf News on Sunday.

“We had thought that we might see fewer vacancies from oil producers this year. But a focus on Emiratisation means that many jobs are still being made available for Emirati jobseekers,” Jemai said.

She added that the Abu Dhabi Police, like in previous years, is also expected to offer many positions.

Other sectors looking to fill positions at the three-day fair include defence, banking, tourism, hospitality and telecommunications.

Nearly 33 per cent of the 100 organisations that will be exhibiting this year are from the private sector. Exhibitors will be conducting on-site interviews, and the entity that logs the greatest number of face-to-face interviews will be recognised by the fair organisers, Informa, Jemai said.

“We had approximately 12,000 Emirati jobseekers attend Tawdheef last year [2015], and the feedback that we received from employers at the show is that they wanted to take this unique opportunity to spend more quality time assessing Emirati job applicants so that they can make the best recruitment decisions in line with their Emiratisation policies,” she added.

To enable this, a new feature at Tawdheef this year (2016) will be the quick on-site videos of visitors made by Internsme, an online portal that connects jobseekers with entry-level positions. Jemai said the aim is to allow exhibitors to peruse these short videos at their own leisure and get in touch with the people featured if they are interested.

A number of sessions will also be conducted as part of a seminar to educate visitors about how to plan for and attain career objectives.

Tawdheef will run from February 1 to 3 and is supported by Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development. ( Gulf News )
